Cameron lights up with excitement with the recreational and special events held throughout the year. With events such as The Annual Dewberry Festival, Barbeque Cook-offs, Horseshoe tournaments, the Christmas Parade, the Cameron Chamber Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament, you will always find something to do in Cameron.


Barbeque Cook-off competitor to basketball fan, or hankering for a dose of good ol’ days in the county then stop in to Cameron and one of the events at our six parks.  Absorb the tranquility and feed your hunger for a slower pace with just the right amount of fun thrown in for your great time.


An 1895 jail was once Milam County’s main law enforcement, but now is the Milam County Jail Museum  and will be open from 1pm to 5 pm. The museum is now located at 112 W. 1st Street and is open from 10am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday. You might also want to visit the 1891 Victorian-style building that is now the Cameron City Hall-McLane Municipal Center. Enjoy a walking tour of historic downtown Cameron and feel the history and the future come together in harmony.

Cultural Activities

The Cameron and Milam County area is rich in culture and history - offering numerous events which highlight local culture. Cameron ISD has a beautiful 800 seat, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center which is the venue for a variety of musical and stage events. Cameron also has an active community theater - Milam Community Theater which produces three plays and a membership Gala Event each year.
